take a deep breath…

Did you know that taking 6 breaths a minute means you’re using up to 90% of the energy gained from breathing?

Did you know the average Westerner takes about 20 breaths a minute, using 10 – 15% of their available energy?

Studies have shown the average child in Africa takes between 6 and 8 breaths a minute; whereas, the average child in the US takes 15 – 20 breaths a minute.

What does this show about our lifestyles?

Is this the example we set for our children and young people…

‘Normal is getting dressed in clothes that you buy for work, driving through traffic in a car you are still paying for, in order to get to the job you need so that you can pay for the clothes, car and house that you leave empty all day in order that you can afford to live in it.’ Ellen Goodman (quoted in J. Luhrs, The Simple Living Guide)

What’s your breathing rate?

How’s your stress level?

Are you living in fast forward?

Do you need to take time to breathe?

That’s an amazing stat on breathing rates – is that why Africans are much better at athletics than us Westeners?!
